1. Complete 900 hours of education (of which, 270 hours must be qualifying real estate)

Broker Licensing Steps

To be eligible to apply for a Real Estate Broker License in Texas, one must supply the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) evidence of completing the following (A&C or B&C):

A. At least 4 years of active experience in Texas as a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson or Broker during the 5 year period prior to the filing of the application;

OR

B. Licensed as a Broker in another state, not less than 4 years active experience as a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson or Broker during the 5 year period prior to the filing of the application.

AND

C. An applicant must have accumulated a minimum of 3600 points (known as qualifying practical experience) during 4 out of 5 years as required by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). One of the following supplemental forms promulgated by the commission must be used to report this credits:

(1) To report qualifying experience with an application use TREC No. BL-A.

(2) If you have already applied for a Broker’s License and now need to report qualifying experience use TREC NO. BL-B,

Broker hours and courses needed:

  • 270 hours of qualifying real estate courses.
  • A 30-hour Real Estate Brokerage (Can be part of the 270 hours)
  • An additional 630 hours in related courses acceptable to the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university satisfies all of the “related” (630 hours) education requirements for a broker’s license. A copy of the college transcript(s) must be submitted as evidence.

Step 1

Step 2

Submit your Application for Brokers license and Educational Documents to the “MyLicense” system.

Estimated time to Approval: 7 – 10 days

Submit your application for an Inactive Broker License to TREC in the “My License” system on the Texas Real Estate Commission’s website. Set up a user ID and password and follow the steps to create an account. Once an account is created you will apply for a new license.

Submit all of your course completion certificates to TREC via Email:

Step 3

Get Fingerprinted at IdentiGo by IDEMIA
(only required if you are not already fingerprinted with TREC)

Estimated time: 1 hour

Fingerprints: Click the following link and enter your TREC ID #, or your Name and Date of Birth, on the Fingerprint Page.

After entering in your information you can get your “IdentoGO ID” and then schedule your fingerprints.

Step 4

Take Your Texas Real Estate Exam Prep Course

Estimated time to Complete: 2-5 Days

School Estate’s Texas Real Estate Salesperson Exam Prep Course is self-paced and can be completed in 2-5 days. The Exam Prep Course consists of a Study Guide (Cram) and unlimited Practice Tests. The practice tests can be taken as many times as you like.

Step 5

Schedule and sit for the Texas Broker Exam with Pearson Vue

Estimated time to Complete: 15 minutes
Cost: $39

The Exam can be scheduled once you have received your approval letter and the from TREC.
